In troubled times
The global geopolitical landscape is unpredictable and may cause concern to many.
In troubled times, the need for information is great. At the same time, there are foreign actors who may have an interest in amplifying concerns and spreading rumours in order to influence our perceptions, actions and trust in society and each other.
The best act of resistance is to carry on as usual and to help each other. Being patient, critical of sources and not sharing unverified information is the foundation of good psychological defence for all of us and for Sweden.
We urge adopting a critical approach to sources:
Watch out
Watch out for information, images or other material that you find upsetting or frightening, or that evoke strong emotions. Antagonistic foreign powers frequently play on your emotions to influence you.
Think twice
Avoid engaging in the spread of disinformation, misleading information and propaganda. Think twice before sharing information with friends or on social media.
Check the source
Learn how digital platforms work and be critical of sources. In a time when algorithms control much our feeds, it is easy to get drawn into a specific narrative – but remember to take a step back and doublecheck the information.
Look for verified information
Pay attention to information from authorities and stay up to date. This is particularly important when something happens that evokes strong emotions. Foreign threat actors with an interest in influencing Sweden and the Swedish population often act opportunistically.
